Isaiah 59:13

Context

59:13 We have rebelled and tried to deceive the Lord;

we turned back from following our God.

We stir up 2  oppression and rebellion;

we tell lies we concocted in our minds. 3

1 tn Heb “In the year the commanding general came to Ashdod, when Sargon king of Assyria sent him, and he fought against Ashdod and captured it.”

sn This probably refers to the Assyrian campaign against Philistia in 712 or 711 b.c.

2 tn Heb “speaking.” A new sentence was started here in the translation for stylistic reasons.

3 tn Heb “conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood.”
