Isaiah 15:9

Context

15:9 Indeed, the waters of Dimon 1  are full of blood!

Indeed, I will heap even more trouble on Dimon. 2

A lion will attack 3  the Moabite fugitives

and the people left in the land.

Isaiah 22:2

Context

22:2 The noisy city is full of raucous sounds;

the town is filled with revelry. 4

Your slain were not cut down by the sword;

they did not die in battle. 5

Isaiah 24:23

Context

24:23 The full moon will be covered up, 6

the bright sun 7  will be darkened; 8

for the Lord who commands armies will rule 9

on Mount Zion in Jerusalem 10

in the presence of his assembly, in majestic splendor. 11

Isaiah 51:22

Context

51:22 This is what your sovereign master, 12  the Lord your God, says:

“Look, I have removed from your hand

the cup of intoxicating wine, 13

the goblet full of my anger. 14

You will no longer have to drink it.

Isaiah 65:7

Context

65:7 for your sins and your ancestors’ sins,” 15  says the Lord.

“Because they burned incense on the mountains

and offended 16  me on the hills,

I will punish them in full measure.” 17

1 tc The Qumran scroll 1QIsaa reads “Dibon” instead of “Dimon” in this verse.

2 tn Heb “Indeed I will place on Dimon added things.” Apparently the Lord is speaking.

3 tn The words “will attack” are supplied in the translation for clarification.

4 tn Heb “the boisterous town.” The phrase is parallel to “the noisy city” in the preceding line.

5 sn Apparently they died from starvation during the siege that preceded the final conquest of the city. See J. N. Oswalt, Isaiah (NICOT), 1:409.

6 tn Heb “will be ashamed.”

7 tn Or “glow of the sun.”

8 tn Heb “will be ashamed” (so NCV).

9 tn Or “take his throne,” “become king.”

10 map For location see Map5 B1; Map6 F3; Map7 E2; Map8 F2; Map10 B3; JP1 F4; JP2 F4; JP3 F4; JP4 F4.

11 tn Heb “and before his elders [in] splendor.”

12 tn The Hebrew term translated “sovereign master” here is אֲדֹנָי (’adonay).

13 tn Heb “the cup of [= that causes] staggering” (so ASV, NAB, NRSV); NASB “the cup of reeling.”

14 tn Heb “the goblet of the cup of my anger.”

15 tn Heb “the iniquities of your fathers.”

16 tn Or perhaps, “taunted”; KJV “blasphemed”; NAB “disgraced”; NASB “scorned”; NIV “defied”; NRSV “reviled.”

17 tn Heb “I will measure out their pay [from the] beginning into their lap,” i.e., he will give them everything they have earned.
