Hebrews 4:14--5:10
-
[Heb 4:14] Atoning Work Is Done, The
The atoning work is done,
The Victim’s blood is shed;
And Jesus now is gone
His people’s cause to plead:
He stands in Heaven their great High Priest,
And bears their names upon His breast.He sprinkles with His blood
The mercy-seat above;
For justice had withstood
The purposes of love:
But justice now objects no more,
And mercy yields her boundless store.No temple made with hands
His place of service is;
In Heaven itself He stands,
A heavenly priesthood His:
In Him the shadows of the law
Are all fulfilled, and now withdraw.And though awhile He be
Hid from the eyes of men,
His people look to see
Their great High Priest again:
In brightest glory He will come,
And take His waiting people home.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Heb 4:14] Great High Priest, We See Thee Stooping
Great High Priest, we see Thee stooping,
With our names upon Thy breast,
In the garden groaning, drooping,
To the ground with sorrows pressed.
Weeping angels stand confounded,
To behold their Maker thus,
And shall we remain unwounded,
When we know ’twas all for us?On the cross Thy body broken,
Cancels every penalty;
Tempted souls produce this token
All demands to satisfy.
All is finished; do not doubt it,
But believe your dying Lord;
Never reason more about it,
Only take Him at His Word.Come, behold your Savior bleeding,
Streams of mercy from Him flow,
Whilst before His Father pleading
For those men who wrought His woe.
Lo, He cried, “Father, forgive them,
Though they do My life pursue,
I am willing to receive them,
For they know not what they do.”Come, Thou everlasting Spirit,
Bring to every thankful mind
All the Savior’s dying merit,
All His suffering for mankind.
True recorder of His passion,
Now Thy living fire impart,
Now reveal Thy great salvation,
Preach His Gospel to our heart.Lord, we fain would trust Thee solely;
’Twas for us Thy blood was spilt;
Gracious Savior, take us wholly,
Take and make us what Thou wilt.
Grant us now Thy heav’nly blessing,
Let Thy love our songs employ;
Then we’ll find Thy peace possessing,
In Thy service all our joy.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Heb 4:14] With Joy We Meditate The Grace
With joy we meditate the grace
Of our High Priest above;
His heart is made of tenderness,
His bowels melt with love.Touched with a sympathy within,
He knows our feeble frame;
He knows what sore temptations mean,
For He has felt the same.But spotless, innocent, and pure,
The great Redeemer stood,
While Satan’s fiery darts He bore,
And did resist to blood.He in the days of feeble flesh
Poured out His cries and tears,
And in His measure feels afresh
What every member bears.He’ll never quench the smoking flax,
But raise it to a flame;
The bruisèd reed He never breaks,
Nor scorns the meanest name.Then let our humble faith address
His mercy and His power;
We shall obtain delivering grace
In the distressing hour.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Heb 4:15] There Is No Sorrow, Lord, Too Light
There is no sorrow, Lord, too light
To bring in prayer to Thee;
There is no anxious care too slight
To wake Thy sympathy.Thou, who hast trod the thorny road,
Wilt share each small distress;
The love, which bore the greater load,
Will not refuse the less.There is no secret sigh we breathe,
But meets Thine ear divine;
And every cross grows light beneath
The shadow, Lord, of Thine.Life’s ills without, sin’s strife within,
The heart would overflow,
But for that love which died for sin,
That love which wept with woe.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Heb 4:15] Wonders Of Redeeming Love, The
The wonders of redeeming love
Our highest thoughts exceed;
The Son of God comes from above
For sinful man to bleed.He gives Himself, His life, His all,
A sinless sacrifice,
For man He drains the cup of gall,
For man the Victim dies.And now before His Father’s face
His precious blood He pleads;
For those who seek the throne of grace,
His love still intercedes.He knows the frailties of our frame,
For He has borne our grief;
Our great High Priest once felt the same,
And He can send relief.His love will not be satisfied,
Till He in glory sees
The faithful ones for whom He died
From sin forever free.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Heb 4:16] Behold The Throne Of Grace
Behold the throne of grace,
The promise calls us near,
There Jesus shows a smiling face
And waits to answer prayer.That rich atoning blood,
Which sprinkled round we see,
Provides for those who come to God
An all prevailing plea.My soul ask what thou wilt,
Thou canst not be too bold;
Since His own blood for thee He spilt,
What else can He withhold.Beyond thy utmost wants
His love and pow’r can bless;
To praying souls He always grants,
More than they can express.Since ’tis the Lord’s command,
My mouth I open wide;
Lord open Thou Thy bounteous hand,
That I may be supplied.Thine image, Lord, bestow,
Thy presence and Thy love;
I ask to serve Thee here below,
And reign with Thee above.Teach me to live by faith,
Conform my will to Thine;
Let me victorious be in death,
And then in glory shine.If Thou these blessings give,
And wilt my portion be;
Cheerful the world’s poor toys I leave,
To them who know not Thee.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Heb 4:16] Behold We Come, Dear Lord, To Thee
Behold we come, dear Lord, to Thee,
And bow before Thy throne;
We come to offer on our knee
Our vows to Thee alone.Whate’er we have, whate’er we are,
Thy bounty freely gave;
Thou dost here in mercy spare,
And wilt hereafter save.Come then, my soul, bring all thy powers,
And grieve thou hast no more;
Bring every day thy choicest hours,
And thy great God adore.But, above all, prepare thy heart,
On this His own blest day;
In its sweet task to bear thy part,
And sing, and love, and pray.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Heb 4:16] Come Boldly To The Throne Of Grace
Come, ye who from your hearts believe
That Jesus answers prayer,
Come boldly to a throne of grace
And claim His promise there,
That, if His love in us abide
And we in Him are one,
Whatever in His Name we ask
It surely will be done.Refrain
Come lovingly and trustingly,
Take Jesus at His Word,
For He has said, “the prayer of faith
Was never yet unheard.”If in the “fountain filled with blood”
Our sins are washed away
Come boldly to a throne of grace,
Rejoicing that we may
Come boldly to a throne of grace,
And bless the Lord our King—
Who fills our grateful hearts with praise,
And tunes our tongues to sing.Refrain
From every precious, golden hour
We spend in fervent prayer,
We gather strength from day to day
For each returning care;
And, while with true, believing hearts
We bow before His throne,
There’s not a promise He has made
But we may call our own.Refrain

[Heb 4:16] I Need Thee Every Hour
I need Thee every hour, most gracious Lord;
No tender voice like Thine can peace afford.Refrain
I need Thee, O I need Thee;
Every hour I need Thee;
O bless me now, my Savior,
I come to Thee.I need Thee every hour, stay Thou nearby;
Temptations lose their power when Thou art nigh.Refrain
I need Thee every hour, in joy or pain;
Come quickly and abide, or life is in vain.Refrain
I need Thee every hour; teach me Thy will;
And Thy rich promises in me fulfill.Refrain
I need Thee every hour, most Holy One;
O make me Thine indeed, Thou blessèd Son.Refrain

[Heb 4:16] They Who Seek The Throne Of Grace
They who seek the throne of grace,
Find that throne in every place;
If we live a life of prayer,
God is present everywhere.In our sickness or our health,
In our want or in our wealth,
If we look to God in prayer,
God is present everywhere.When our earthly comforts fail,
When the foes of life prevail,
’Tis the time for earnest prayer;
God is present everywhere.Then, my soul, in every strait
To thy Father come and wait;
He will answer every prayer;
God is present everywhere.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Heb 5:7] Our Blessèd Savior Seven Times Spoke
Our blessèd Savior sev’n times spoke
When on the cross our sins He took
And died lest men should perish.
Let us His last and dying words
In our remembrance cherish.“Father, forgive these men; for, lo,
They truly know not what they do.”
So far His love extended.
Forgive us, Lord, for we, too, have
Through ignorance offended.Now to the contrite thief He cries:
“Thou, verily, in Paradise
Shall meet Me ere tomorrow.”
Lord, take us to Thy kingdom soon
Who linger here in sorrow.To weeping Mary, standing by,
“Behold thy Son,” now hear Him cry;
To John, “Behold thy mother.”
Provide, O Lord, for those we leave;
Let each befriend the other.The Savior’s fourth word was “I thirst.”
O mighty Prince of Life, Thy thirst
For us and our salvation
Is truly great; do help us, then,
That we escape damnation.The fifth, “My God, My God, O why
Forsake Me?” Hark, the awful cry!
Lord, Thou wast here forsaken
That we might be received on high;
Let this hope not be shaken.The sixth, when victory was won,
“’Tis finished!” for Thy work was done.
Grant, Lord, that, onward pressing,
We may the work Thou dost impose
Fulfill with Thine own blessing.The last, as woe and sufferings end,
“O God, My Father, I commend
Into Thy hands My Spirit.”
Be this, dear Lord, my dying wish;
O heavenly Father, hear it.Whoe’er, by sense of sin oppressed,
Upon these words his thoughts will rest,
He joy and hope obtaineth
And through God’s love and boundless grace
A peaceful conscience gaineth.O Jesus Christ, Thou Crucified,
Who hast for our offenses died,
Grant that we e’er may ponder
Thy wounds, Thy cross, Thy bitter death,
Both here below and yonder.source: Cyberhymnal
