Hebrews 4:1

God’s Promised Rest

4:1 Therefore we must be wary 1  that, while the promise of entering his rest remains open, none of you may seem to have come short of it.

6:17 In the same way 2  God wanted to demonstrate more clearly to the heirs of the promise that his purpose was unchangeable, 3  and so he intervened with an oath,

7:6 But Melchizedek 4  who does not share their ancestry 5  collected a tithe 6  from Abraham and blessed 7  the one who possessed the promise.

7 sn The verbs “collected…and blessed” emphasize the continuing effect of the past actions, i.e., Melchizedek’s importance.
