• [Heb 1:1] God, Who In Various Methods Told

  God, who in various methods told His mind and will to saints of old, Sent down His Son, with truth and grace, To teach us in these latter days. Our nation reads the written Word, That book of life, that sure record: The bright inheritance of Heav’n Is by the sweet conveyance giv’n. God’s kindest thoughts are here expressed, Able to make us wise and bless’d; The doctrines are divinely true, Fit for reproof and comfort, too. [The last stanza would, obviously, need updating for a present day use.] Ye British isles, who read His love In long epistles from above, (He hath not sent His sacred Word To every land,) praise ye the Lord.

Hebrews 1:6

• [Heb 1:6] Angels Adore Him

  O’er the hills in far Judea, Rang the first glad Christmas song; ’Twas a grand angelic chorus, Shepherds saw the shining throng. Glory streamed across the heavens, Music echoed thro’ the air; Christ the Morning Star hath risen! Tell the tidings everywhere. Refrain Angels adore Him, Hark! We seem to hear Echoes from Heaven, Angel echoes clear. Jesus the mighty Came to earth to bring Priceless redemption Christ our Prophet, Priest and King! Tell again the sweet old story, Of the shepherds on the hill, When the angels from the glory Sang while all the world was still. Tell again the story wondrous, Of the Infant in the stall, Of the guiding star above Him, Shining o’er the Lord of all. Refrain Angels wondered at His coming, To this scene of earthly night, From the fadeless day in glory, From His home so wondrous bright; Angels looked in deep amazement, At the manger of His birth, Understanding not His purpose, To redeem this sinful earth. Refrain

• [Heb 1:6] I Love To Hear The Story

  I love to hear the story which angel voices tell, How once the King of glory came down on earth to dwell. I am both weak and sinful; but this I surely know, The Lord came down to save me, because He loved me so. I’m glad my blessèd Savior was once a child like me, To show how pure and holy His little ones might be; And, if I try to follow His footsteps here below, He never will forget me, because He loves me so. To sing His love and mercy my sweetest songs I’ll raise; And, though I cannot see Him, I know he hears my praise; For He has kindly promised that even I may go To sing among His angels, because He loves me so.

• [Heb 1:6] O Holy Lord, Our God

  O holy Lord, our God, By heav’nly hosts adored, Hear us, we pray; To Thee the cherubim, Angels and seraphim, Unceasing praises hymn, Their homage pay. Here give Thy Word success, And this Thy servant bless, His labors own; And while the sinner’s Friend His life and words commend, The Holy Spirit send, And make him known. May every passing year More happy still appear Than this glad day; With numbers fill the place, Adorn Thy saints with grace, Thy truth may all embrace, O Lord, we pray. O Lord, our God, arise; And now, before our eyes, Thy arm make bare; Unite our hearts in love Till, raised to Heav’n above, We all its fullness prove, And praise Thee there.

Hebrews 11:10

• [Heb 11:10] Built By Jehovah’s Hand

  Built by Jehovah’s hand, The holy city see: Its happy gates wide open stand: To enter all are free. One bright, eternal day Shall in the city reign, Darkness and death are fled away, Ne’er to return again. O blessèd, happy state! Great God, we thankful come, Low at Thy footstool humbly wait, And make Thy church our home. Jerusalem shall be Our peaceful, blest abode: Here we will love and honor Thee, Our Savior and our God!

• [Heb 11:10] O Thou Not Made With Hands

  O thou not made with hands, Not throned above the skies, Nor walled with shining walls, Nor framed with stones of price, More bright than gold or gem, God’s own Jerusalem. Where’er the gentle heart Finds courage from above; Where’er the heart forsook Warms with the breath of love; Where faith bids fear depart, City of God, thou art. Thou art where’er the proud In humbleness melts down; Where self itself yields up; Where martyrs win their crown; Where faithful souls possess Themselves in perfect peace. Where in life’s common ways With cheerful feet we go; Where in His steps we tread, Who trod the way of woe; Where He is in the heart, City of God, thou art. Not throned above the skies, Nor golden-walled afar, But where Christ’s two or three In His Name gathered are, Be in the midst of them, God’s own Jerusalem.

• [Heb 11:10] Pearly White City, The

  There’s a holy and beautiful city Whose Builder and Ruler is God; John saw it descending from Heaven, When Patmos, in exile, he trod; Its high, massive wall is of jasper, The city itself is pure gold; And when my frail tent here is folded, Mine eyes shall its glory behold. Refrain In that bright city, pearly white city, I have a mansion, a harp, and a crown; Now I am watching, waiting, and longing, For the white city that’s soon coming down. No sin is allowed in that city And nothing defiling or mean; No pain and no sickness can enter, No crepe on the doorknob is seen; Earth’s sorrows and cares are forgotten, No tempter is there to annoy; No parting words ever are spoken, There’s nothing to hurt or destroy. Refrain No heartaches are known in that city, No tears ever moisten the eyes; There’s no disappointment in Heaven, No envy and strife in the sky; The saints are all sanctified wholly, They live in sweet harmony there; My heart is now set on that city, And some day its blessings I’ll share. Refrain My loved ones are gathering yonder, My friends too are passing away, And soon I shall join their bright number, And dwell in eternity’s day; They’re safe now in glory with Jesus, Their trials and battles are past. They overcame sin and the tempter, They’ve reached that fair city at last. Refrain
