1 tn The Hebrew construction has the negative particle אֵין (’en, “there is not,” “there was not”) with a pronominal suffix, “he was not.” Instead of saying that Enoch died, the text says he no longer was present.

2 sn The text simply states that God took Enoch. Similar language is used of Elijah’s departure from this world (see 2 Kgs 2:10). The text implies that God overruled death for this man who walked with him.

3 tn Heb “they”; the referent (the four victorious kings, see v. 9) has been supplied in the translation for clarity.

4 tn Heb “in order to slaughter.”

5 tn Heb “and he said”; the referent (Isaac) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

6 tn Or “took”; “received.”

7 tn Heb “and he sent across what he had.”

8 tn Heb “and from the whole of his brothers he took five men and presented them before Pharaoh.”
