Genesis 41:43

Context
41:43 Pharaoh 1  had him ride in the chariot used by his second-in-command, 2  and they cried out before him, “Kneel down!” 3  So he placed him over all the land of Egypt.

Genesis 41:55

Context
41:55 When all the land of Egypt experienced the famine, the people cried out to Pharaoh for food. Pharaoh said to all the people of Egypt, 4  “Go to Joseph and do whatever he tells you.”

Genesis 45:1

The Reconciliation of the Brothers

45:1 Joseph was no longer able to control himself before all his attendants, 5  so he cried out, “Make everyone go out from my presence!” No one remained 6  with Joseph when he made himself known to his brothers.

1 tn Heb “he”; the referent (Pharaoh) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

2 tn Heb “and he caused him to ride in the second chariot which was his.”

3 tn The verb form appears to be a causative imperative from a verbal root meaning “to kneel.” It is a homonym of the word “bless” (identical in root letters but not related etymologically).

4 tn Heb “to all Egypt.” The name of the country is used by metonymy for the inhabitants.

5 tn Heb “all the ones standing beside him.”

6 tn Heb “stood.”
