Context
31:40 I was consumed by scorching heat 1  during the day and by piercing cold 2  at night, and I went without sleep. 3

Genesis 46:2

Context
46:2 God spoke to Israel in a vision during the night 4  and said, “Jacob, Jacob!” He replied, “Here I am!”

1 tn Or “by drought.”

2 tn Heb “frost, ice,” though when contrasted with the חֹרֶב (khorev, “drought, parching heat”) of the day, “piercing cold” is more appropriate as a contrast.

3 tn Heb “and my sleep fled from my eyes.”

4 tn Heb “in visions of the night.” The plural form has the singular meaning, probably as a plural of intensity.
