Genesis 31:34

Context
31:34 (Now Rachel had taken the idols and put them inside her camel’s saddle 1  and sat on them.) 2  Laban searched the whole tent, but did not find them. 3

Genesis 37:25

Context

37:25 When they sat down to eat their food, they looked up 4  and saw 5  a caravan of Ishmaelites coming from Gilead. Their camels were carrying spices, balm, and myrrh down to Egypt. 6

1 tn The “camel’s saddle” was probably some sort of basket-saddle, a cushioned saddle with a basket bound on. Cf. NAB “inside a camel cushion.”

2 tn The disjunctive clause (introduced by a vav [ו] conjunction) provides another parenthetical statement necessary to the storyline.

3 tn The word “them” has been supplied in the translation for clarification.

4 tn Heb “lifted up their eyes.”

5 tn Heb “and they saw and look.” By the use of וְהִנֵּה (vÿhinneh, “and look”), the narrator invites the reader to see the event through the eyes of the brothers.

6 tn Heb “and their camels were carrying spices, balm, and myrrh, going to go down to Egypt.”
