Genesis 31:21

Context
31:21 He left 1  with all he owned. He quickly crossed 2  the Euphrates River 3  and headed for 4  the hill country of Gilead.

Genesis 32:31

Context

32:31 The sun rose 5  over him as he crossed over Penuel, 6  but 7  he was limping because of his hip.

1 tn Heb “and he fled.”

2 tn Heb “he arose and crossed.” The first verb emphasizes that he wasted no time in getting across.

3 tn Heb “the river”; the referent (the Euphrates) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

4 tn Heb “he set his face.”

5 tn Heb “shone.”

6 sn The name is spelled Penuel here, apparently a variant spelling of Peniel (see v. 30).

7 tn The disjunctive clause draws attention to an important fact: He may have crossed the stream, but he was limping.
