but you will eat the grain 1  of the field.

Genesis 25:10

Context
25:10 This was the field Abraham had purchased from the sons of Heth. 2  There Abraham was buried with his wife Sarah.

Genesis 31:4

Context
31:4 So Jacob sent a message for Rachel and Leah 3  to come to the field 4  where his flocks were. 5

1 tn The Hebrew term עֵשֶׂב (’esev), when referring to human food, excludes grass (eaten by cattle) and woody plants like vines.

2 tn See the note on the phrase “sons of Heth” in Gen 23:3.

3 tn Heb “sent and called for Rachel and for Leah.” Jacob did not go in person, but probably sent a servant with a message for his wives to meet him in the field.

4 tn Heb “the field.” The word is an adverbial accusative, indicating that this is where Jacob wanted them to meet him. The words “to come to” are supplied in the translation for clarification and stylistic reasons.

5 tn Heb “to his flock.”
