Genesis 28:4

Context
28:4 May he give you and your descendants the blessing he gave to Abraham 1  so that you may possess the land 2  God gave to Abraham, the land where you have been living as a temporary resident.” 3

Genesis 26:15

Context
26:15 So the Philistines took dirt and filled up 4  all the wells that his father’s servants had dug back in the days of his father Abraham.

Genesis 24:12

Context
24:12 He prayed, “O Lord, God of my master Abraham, guide me today. 5  Be faithful 6  to my master Abraham.

1 tn Heb “and may he give to you the blessing of Abraham, to you and to your offspring with you.” The name “Abraham” is an objective genitive here; this refers to the blessing that God gave to Abraham.

2 tn The words “the land” have been supplied in the translation for clarity.

3 tn Heb “the land of your sojournings,” that is, the land where Jacob had been living as a resident alien, as his future descendants would after him.

4 tn Heb “and the Philistines stopped them up and filled them with dirt.”

5 tn Heb “make it happen before me today.” Although a number of English translations understand this as a request for success in the task (cf. NASB, NIV, NRSV) it is more likely that the servant is requesting an omen or sign from God (v. 14).

6 tn Heb “act in loyal love with” or “show kindness to.”
