Genesis 43:30
Context43:30 Joseph hurried out, for he was overcome by affection for his brother 6 and was at the point of tears. 7 So he went to his room and wept there.
1 tn Heb “Bless me, me also, my father.” The words “my father” have not been repeated in the translation for stylistic reasons.
2 tn Heb “and Esau lifted his voice and wept.”
3 tn Heb “and he turned to them and spoke to them.”
4 tn Heb “took Simeon.” This was probably done at Joseph’s command, however; the grand vizier of Egypt would not have personally seized a prisoner.
5 tn Heb “and he bound him.” See the note on the preceding verb “taken.”
6 tn Heb “for his affection boiled up concerning his brother.” The same expression is used in 1 Kgs 3:26 for the mother’s feelings for her endangered child.
7 tn Heb “and he sought to weep.”
