Genesis 24:67

Context
24:67 Then Isaac brought Rebekah 1  into his mother Sarah’s tent. He took her 2  as his wife and loved her. 3  So Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death. 4

Genesis 32:11

Context
32:11 Rescue me, 5  I pray, from the hand 6  of my brother Esau, 7  for I am afraid he will come 8  and attack me, as well as the mothers with their children. 9

Genesis 43:29

Context

43:29 When Joseph looked up 10  and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother’s son, he said, “Is this your youngest brother, whom you told me about?” Then he said, “May God be gracious to you, my son.” 11

1 tn Heb “her”; the referent has been specified here in the translation for clarity.

2 tn Heb “Rebekah”; here the proper name was replaced by the pronoun (“her”) in the translation for stylistic reasons.

3 tn Heb “and he took Rebekah and she became his wife and he loved her.”

4 tn Heb “after his mother.” This must refer to Sarah’s death.

5 tn The imperative has the force of a prayer here, not a command.

6 tn The “hand” here is a metonymy for “power.”

7 tn Heb “from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau.”

8 tn Heb “for I am afraid of him, lest he come.”

9 sn Heb “me, [the] mother upon [the] sons.” The first person pronoun “me” probably means here “me and mine,” as the following clause suggests.

10 tn Heb “and he lifted his eyes.” The referent of “he” (Joseph) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

11 sn Joseph’s language here becomes warmer and more personal, culminating in calling Benjamin my son.
