Genesis 27:31

27:31 He also prepared some tasty food and brought it to his father. Esau 4  said to him, “My father, get up 5  and eat some of your son’s wild game. Then you can bless me.” 6

Genesis 38:24

Context

38:24 After three months Judah was told, 8  “Your daughter-in-law Tamar has turned to prostitution, 9  and as a result she has become pregnant.” 10  Judah said, “Bring her out and let her be burned!”

1 tn Heb “give.” This is used here (also a second time later in this verse) as an idiom for “sell”; see the note on the word “grant” in v. 4.

2 tn Heb “in your presence.”

3 tn Heb “silver.”

4 tn Heb “and he said to his father”; the referent of “he” (Esau) has been specified in the translation for clarity, while the words “his father” have been replaced by the pronoun “him” for stylistic reasons.

5 tn Or “arise” (i.e., sit up).

6 tn Heb “so that your soul may bless me.”

7 tn Heb “and I, I will move along according to my leisure at the foot of the property which is before me and at the foot of the children.”

8 tn Heb “it was told to Judah, saying.”

9 tn Or “has been sexually promiscuous.” The verb may refer here to loose or promiscuous activity, not necessarily prostitution.

10 tn Heb “and also look, she is with child by prostitution.”
