Genesis 23:11

Context
23:11 “No, my lord! Hear me out. I sell 1  you both the field and the cave that is in it. 2  In the presence of my people 3  I sell it to you. Bury your dead.”

Genesis 24:65

Context
24:65 and asked 4  Abraham’s servant, 5  “Who is that man walking in the field toward us?” “That is my master,” the servant replied. 6  So she took her veil and covered herself.

Genesis 41:48

Context
41:48 Joseph 7  collected all the excess food 8  in the land of Egypt during the seven years and stored it in the cities. 9  In every city he put the food gathered from the fields around it.

1 tn Heb “give.” The perfect tense has here a present nuance; this is a formal, legally binding declaration. Abraham asked only for a burial site/cave within the field; Ephron agrees to sell him the entire field.

2 tn The Hebrew text adds “to you I give [i.e., sell] it.” This is redundant in English and has not been translated for stylistic reasons.

3 tn Heb “in the presence of the sons of my people.”

4 tn Heb “and she said to.”

5 tn Heb “the servant.” The word “Abraham’s” has been supplied in the translation for clarity.

6 tn Heb “and the servant said.” The order of the introductory clause and the direct discourse has been rearranged in the translation for stylistic reasons.

7 tn Heb “he”; the referent (Joseph) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

8 tn Heb “all the food.”

9 tn Heb “of the seven years which were in the land of Egypt and placed food in the cities.”
