Genesis 2:2

49:33 When Jacob finished giving these instructions to his sons, he pulled his feet up onto the bed, breathed his last breath, and went 8  to his people.

1 tn Heb “on/in the seventh day.”

2 tn Heb “his work which he did [or “made”].”

3 tn The Hebrew term שָׁבַּת (shabbat) can be translated “to rest” (“and he rested”) but it basically means “to cease.” This is not a rest from exhaustion; it is the cessation of the work of creation.

4 tn The use of the infinitive absolute before the finite form of the verb makes the construction emphatic.

5 tn Heb “the presence of Isaac his father.” The repetition of the proper name (“Isaac”) was

6 tn Heb “and Esau his brother came from his hunt.”

7 tn Heb “and he”; the referent (the man who was in charge of Joseph’s household) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

8 tn Heb “was gathered.”
