Genesis 19:34

Context
19:34 So in the morning the older daughter 1  said to the younger, “Since I had sexual relations with my father last night, let’s make him drunk again tonight. 2  Then you go and have sexual relations with him so we can preserve our family line through our father.” 3

Genesis 21:14

Context

21:14 Early in the morning Abraham took 4  some food 5  and a skin of water and gave them to Hagar. He put them on her shoulders, gave her the child, 6  and sent her away. So she went wandering 7  aimlessly through the wilderness 8  of Beer Sheba.

Genesis 47:17

Context
47:17 So they brought their livestock to Joseph, and Joseph gave them food in exchange for their horses, the livestock of their flocks and herds, and their donkeys. 9  He got them through that year by giving them food in exchange for livestock.

1 tn Heb “the firstborn.”

2 tn Heb “Look, I lied down with my father. Let’s make him drink wine again tonight.”

3 tn Heb “And go, lie down with him and we will keep alive from our father descendants.”

4 tn Heb “and Abraham rose up early in the morning and he took.”

5 tn Heb “bread,” although the term can be used for food in general.

6 tn Heb “He put upon her shoulder, and the boy [or perhaps, “and with the boy”], and he sent her away.” It is unclear how “and the boy” relates syntactically to what precedes. Perhaps the words should be rearranged and the text read, “and he put [them] on her shoulder and he gave to Hagar the boy.”

7 tn Heb “she went and wandered.”

8 tn Or “desert,” although for English readers this usually connotes a sandy desert like the Sahara rather than the arid wasteland of this region with its sparse vegetation.

9 tn The definite article is translated here as a possessive pronoun.
