Context
5:12 But after our ancestors¹ angered the God of heaven, he delivered them into the hands² of King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this temple and exiled the people to Babylon.³

Context

9:5 At the time of the evening offering I got up from my self-abasement,⁴ with my tunic and robe torn, and then dropped to my knees and spread my hands to the Lord my God.

¹tn Aram “fathers.”

²tn Aram “hand” (singular).

³sn A reference to the catastrophic events of 586 b.c.

⁴tn The Hebrew word used here is a hapax legomenon. It refers to the self-abasement that accompanies religious sorrow and fasting.
