Ezekiel 3:21

3:21 However, if you warn the righteous person not to sin, and he 1  does not sin, he will certainly live because he was warned, and you will have saved your own life.”

Ezekiel 16:4

16:4 As for your birth, on the day you were born your umbilical cord was not cut, nor were you washed in water; 2  you were certainly not rubbed down with salt, nor wrapped with blankets. 3 

Ezekiel 18:13

18:13 engages in usury and charges interest. Will he live? He will not! Because he has done all these abominable deeds he will certainly die. 4  He will bear the responsibility for his own death. 5 

Ezekiel 33:8

33:8 When I say to the wicked, ‘O wicked man, you must certainly die,’ 6  and you do not warn 7  the wicked about his behavior, 8  the wicked man will die for his iniquity, but I will hold you accountable for his death. 9

33:13 Suppose I tell the righteous that he will certainly live, but he becomes confident in his righteousness and commits iniquity. None of his righteous deeds will be remembered; because of the iniquity he has committed he will die.

33:15 He 10  returns what was taken in pledge, pays back what he has stolen, and follows the statutes that give life, 11  committing no iniquity. He will certainly live – he will not die.

3 sn Arab midwives still cut the umbilical cords of infants and then proceed to apply salt and oil to their bodies.

4 tn Heb “be put to death.” The translation follows an alternative reading that appears in several ancient textual witnesses.

5 tn Heb “his blood will be upon him.”

6 tn The same expression occurs in Gen 2:17.

7 tn Heb “and you do not speak to warn.”

8 tn Heb “way.”

9 tn Heb “and his blood from your hand I will seek.”

10 tn Heb “the wicked one.”

11 tn Heb “and in the statutes of life he walks.”
