Ezekiel 19:10
Context19:10 “‘Your mother was like a vine in your vineyard, 1 planted by water.
It was fruitful and full of branches because it was well-watered.
Ezekiel 31:14
Context31:14 For this reason no watered trees will grow so tall; their tops will not reach into the clouds, nor will the well-watered ones grow that high. 2 For all of them have been appointed to die in the lower parts of the earth; 3 they will be among mere mortals, 4 with those who descend to the pit.
1 tc The Hebrew text reads “in your blood,” but most emend to “in your vineyard,” assuming a ב-כ (beth-kaph) confusion. See L. C. Allen, Ezekiel (WBC), 1:284. Another attractive emendation assumes a faulty word division and yields the reading “like a vine full of tendrils, which/because…”; see D. I. Block, Ezekiel (NICOT), 1:607, n. 68.
2 tn Heb “and they will not stand to them in their height, all the drinkers of water.”
3 tn Heb “for death, to the lower earth.”
4 tn Heb “the sons of men.”
