Ezekiel 1:28

Context
1:28 like the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds after the rain. 1  This was the appearance of the surrounding brilliant light; it looked like the glory of the Lord. When I saw 2  it, I threw myself face down, and I heard a voice speaking.

Ezekiel 6:9

Context
6:9 Then your survivors will remember me among the nations where they are exiled. They will realize 3  how I was crushed by their unfaithful 4  heart which turned from me and by their eyes which lusted after their idols. They will loathe themselves 5  because of the evil they have done and because of all their abominable practices.

Ezekiel 38:8

Context
38:8 After many days you will be summoned; in the latter years you will come to a land restored from the ravages of war, 6  with many peoples gathered on the mountains of Israel that had long been in ruins. Its people 7  were brought out from the peoples, and all of them will be living securely.

Ezekiel 40:1

Context
Vision of the New Temple

40:1 In the twenty-fifth year of our exile, at the beginning of the year, on the tenth day of the month, in the fourteenth year after the city 8  was struck down, on this very day, 9  the hand 10  of the Lord was on me, and he brought me there. 11

Ezekiel 46:12

Context
46:12 When the prince provides a freewill offering, a burnt offering, or peace offerings as a voluntary offering to the Lord, the gate facing east will be opened for him, and he will provide his burnt offering and his peace offerings just as he did on the Sabbath. Then he will go out, and the gate will be closed after he goes out. 12

1 sn Reference to the glowing substance and the brilliant light and storm phenomena in vv. 27-28a echoes in reverse order the occurrence of these phenomena in v. 4.

2 tn The vision closes with the repetition of the verb “I saw” from the beginning of the vision in 1:4.

3 tn The words “they will realize” are not in the Hebrew text; they are added here for stylistic reasons since this clause assumes the previous verb “to remember” or “to take into account.”

4 tn Heb “how I was broken by their adulterous heart.” The image of God being “broken” is startling, but perfectly natural within the metaphorical framework of God as offended husband. The idiom must refer to the intense grief that Israel’s unfaithfulness caused God. For a discussion of the syntax and semantics of the Hebrew text, see M. Greenberg, Ezekiel (AB), 1:134.

5 tn Heb adds “in their faces.”

6 tn Heb “from the sword.”

7 tn Heb “it.”

8 sn That is, Jerusalem.

9 tn April 19, 573 b.c.

10 tn Or “power.”

sn Hand in the OT can refer metaphorically to power, authority, or influence. In Ezekiel God’s hand being on the prophet is regularly associated with communication or a vision from God (3:14, 22; 8:1; 37:1; 40:1).

11 sn That is, to the land of Israel (see v. 2).

12 tn Heb “he shall shut the gate after he goes out.”
