• [Eph 6:10] Be Strong In God

  Be strong in God and in His power; Put on His armor every day. Thus you can take your stand each hour; The devil’s schemes won’t lead you astray. The battle’s like a flood, Though not ’gainst flesh and blood; But ’gainst the spiritual realm, With Satan at the helm; You face the powers of darkness. Take God’s full armor—your life surround, So when the day of evil appears, You’ll then be able to stand your ground, And after all, to stand without fear. Stand firm, then, in the faith, The belt of truth in place; Breastplate of righteousness, Feet shod with readiness That comes from the true Gospel of peace. Take, over all, the shield of faith, To quench the flaming arrows outpoured. Salvation’s helmet wear over your face, And take the Word, the Spirit’s sword. Pray in the Spirit’s power, All kinds of prayers each hour. Be always on alert, And pray for all the Church. Through God you’ll win the battle!

• [Eph 6:10] Behold! The Christian Warrior Stand

  Behold! the Christian warrior stand In all the armor of his God; The Spirit’s sword is in his hand; His feet are with the Gospel shod; In panoply of truth complete, Salvation’s helmet on his head; With righteousness a breastplate meet, And faith’s broad shield before him spread. He wrestles not with flesh and blood, But principalities and powers, Rulers of darkness, like a flood, Nigh, and assailing at all hours. Nor Satan’s fiery darts alone, Quenched on his shield, at him are hurled; The traitor in his heart is known, And the dire friendship of this world. Undaunted to the field he goes; Yet vain were skill and valor there, Unless, to foil his legion foes, He takes the trustiest weapon: prayer. With this omnipotence he moves, From this the alien armies flee, Till more than conqueror he proves, Through Christ, who gives him victory. Thus, strong in his Redeemer’s strength, Sin, death, and hell he tramples down; Fights the good fight, and wins at length, Through mercy, an immortal crown.

  Truehearted, wholehearted, faithful and loyal, King of our lives, by Thy grace we will be; Under the standard exalted and royal, Strong in Thy strength we will battle for Thee.   Christian, dost thou see them on the holy ground, How the powers of darkness rage thy steps around? Christian, up and smite them, counting gain but loss, In the strength that cometh by the holy cross. Christian, dost thou feel them, how they work within, Striving, tempting, luring, goading into sin? Christian, never tremble; never be downcast; Gird thee for the battle, watch and pray and fast. Christian, dost thou hear them, how they speak thee fair? “Always fast and vigil? Always watch and prayer?” Christian, answer boldly: “While I breathe I pray!” Peace shall follow battle, night shall end in day. “Well I know thy trouble, O my servant true; Thou art very weary, I was weary, too; But that toil shall make thee some day all Mine own, At the end of sorrow shall be near my throne.”

  O Christians, leagued together to battle for the right Arise and don your armor, put the foe to flight!   Angel your march oppose, Who still in strength excel, Your secret, sworn, eternal foes, Countless, invisible. With rage that never ends Their hellish arts they try; Legions of dire malicious fiends, And spirits enthroned on high. On earth the usurpers reign, Exert their baneful power, O’er the poor fallen sons of men They tyrannize their hour: But shall believers fear? But shall believers fly? Or see the bloody cross appear, And all their power defy? Jesus’ tremendous Name Puts all our foes to flight: Jesus, the meek, the angry Lamb, A Lion is in fight.   My faith, it is an oaken staff, The traveler’s well loved aid; My faith, it is a weapon stout, The soldier’s trusty blade, I’ll travel on, and still be stirred, By silent thought or social word; By all my perils undeterred, A soldier pilgrim staid. I have a Guide, and in His steps When travelers have trod, Whether beneath was flinty rock Or yielding grassy sod, They cared not, with force unspent, Unmoved by pain, they onward went, Unstayed by pleasures, still they bent Their zealous course to God.
