Deuteronomy 8:16

1 tn Heb “in order to humble you and in order to test you.” See 8:2.

2 tn The Hebrew text uses the infinitive absolute for emphasis, which the translation indicates with “make sure.”

3 tn Heb “your brother.”

4 tn Heb “in order to multiply horses.” The translation uses “do so” in place of “multiply horses” to avoid redundancy (cf. NAB, NIV).

5 tn Heb “slain [one].”

6 tc The LXX adds σφόδρα (sfodra, “very”) to bring the description into line with v. 54.

7 tn Heb “delicateness and tenderness.”
