Deuteronomy 7:10

Context
7:10 but who pays back those who hate 1  him as they deserve and destroys them. He will not ignore 2  those who hate him but will repay them as they deserve!

22:4 When you see 3  your neighbor’s donkey or ox fallen along the road, do not ignore it; 4  instead, you must be sure 5  to help him get the animal on its feet again. 6

Curses as Reversal of Blessings

28:15 “But if you ignore 7  the Lord your God and are not careful to keep all his commandments and statutes I am giving you today, then all these curses will come upon you in full force: 8 

1 tn For the term “hate” as synonymous with rejection or disobedience see note on the word “reject” in Deut 5:9 (cf. NRSV “reject”).

2 tn Heb “he will not hesitate concerning.”

3 tn Heb “you must not see.” See note at 22:1.

4 tn Heb “and (must not) hide yourself from them.”

5 tn The Hebrew text uses the infinitive absolute for emphasis, which the translation indicates with “be sure.”

6 tn Heb “help him to lift them up.” In keeping with English style the singular is used in the translation, and the referent (“the animal”) has been specified for clarity.

7 tn Heb “do not hear the voice of.”

8 tn Heb “and overtake you” (so NIV, NRSV); NAB, NLT “and overwhelm you.”
