Deuteronomy 6:7

6:7 and you must teach 1  them to your children and speak of them as you sit in your house, as you walk along the road, 2  as you lie down, and as you get up.

Deuteronomy 22:2

22:2 If the owner 3  does not live 4  near you or you do not know who the owner is, 5  then you must corral the animal 6  at your house and let it stay with you until the owner looks for it; then you must return it to him.

Deuteronomy 32:46

32:46 he said to them, “Keep in mind all the words I am solemnly proclaiming to you today; you must command your children to observe carefully all the words of this law.

1 tn Heb “repeat” (so NLT). If from the root I שָׁנַן (shanan), the verb means essentially to “engrave,” that is, “to teach incisively” (Piel); note NAB “Drill them into your children.” Cf. BDB 1041-42 s.v.

2 tn Or “as you are away on a journey” (cf. NRSV, TEV, NLT); NAB “at home and abroad.”

3 tn Heb “your brother” (also later in this verse).

4 tn Heb “is not.” The idea of “residing” is implied.

5 tn Heb “and you do not know him.”

6 tn Heb “it”; the referent (the ox or sheep mentioned in v. 1) has been specified in the translation for clarity.
