Deuteronomy 32:47

Context
32:47 For this is no idle word for you – it is your life! By this word you will live a long time in the land you are about to cross the Jordan to possess.”

1 tn Heb “watch yourself and watch your soul carefully.”

2 tn The Hebrew text uses the infinitive absolute for emphasis, which the translation seeks to reflect with “be sure.”

3 tn Or “just”; Heb “righteous.”

4 tn Heb “you will not be confident in your life.” The phrase “from one day to the next” is implied by the following verse.

5 tn Verses 39-42 appear to be a quotation of the Lord and so the introductory phrase “says the Lord” is supplied in the translation for clarity.

6 tn Heb “deliver from” (so NRSV, NLT).
