4:40 Keep his statutes and commandments that I am setting forth¹ today so that it may go well with you and your descendants and that you may enjoy longevity in the land that the Lord your God is about to give you as a permanent possession.

12:15 On the other hand, you may slaughter and eat meat as you please when the Lord your God blesses you⁶ in all your villages.⁷ Both the ritually pure and impure may eat it, whether it is a gazelle or an ibex.

Deuteronomy 12:21

12:21 If the place he⁸ chooses to locate his name is too far for you, you may slaughter any of your herd and flock he⁹ has given you just as I have stipulated; you may eat them in your villages¹⁰ just as you wish.

Deuteronomy 14:29

14:29 Then the Levites (because they have no allotment or inheritance with you), the resident foreigners, the orphans, and the widows of your villages may come and eat their fill so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work you do.

¹tn Heb “commanding” (so NRSV).

²tn The imperative here means, literally, “regard as heavy” (כַּבֵּד, kabbed). The meaning is that great importance must be ascribed to parents by their children.

⁴tn Heb “may multiply greatly” (so NASB, NRSV); the words “in number” have been supplied in the translation for clarity.
