Deuteronomy 28:9

28:9 The Lord will designate you as his holy people just as he promised you, if you keep his commandments 1  and obey him. 2 

Deuteronomy 17:15

Context
17:15 you must select without fail 3  a king whom the Lord your God chooses. From among your fellow citizens 4  you must appoint a king – you may not designate a foreigner who is not one of your fellow Israelites. 5 

1 tn Heb “the commandments of the Lord your God.” See note on “he” in the previous verse.

2 tn Heb “and walk in his ways” (so NAB, NASB, NIV, NRSV, NLT).

3 tn The Hebrew text uses the infinitive absolute for emphasis, indicated in the translation by the words “without fail.”

4 tn Heb “your brothers,” but not referring to siblings (cf. NIV “your brother Israelites”; NLT “a fellow Israelite”). The same phrase also occurs in v. 20.

5 tn Heb “your brothers.” See the preceding note on “fellow citizens.”
