Deuteronomy 2:33

Context
2:33 the Lord our God delivered him over to us and we struck him down, along with his sons 1  and everyone else. 2

Deuteronomy 18:5

Context
18:5 For the Lord your God has chosen them and their sons from all your tribes to stand 3  and serve in his name 4  permanently.

Deuteronomy 28:32

Context
28:32 Your sons and daughters will be given to another people while you look on in vain all day, and you will be powerless to do anything about it. 5

1 tc The translation follows the Qere or marginal reading; the Kethib (consonantal text) has the singular, “his son.”

2 tn Heb “all his people.”

3 tc Smr and some Greek texts add “before the Lord your God” to bring the language into line with a formula found elsewhere (Deut 10:8; 2 Chr 29:11). This reading is not likely to be original, however.

4 tn Heb “the name of the Lord.” The pronoun has been used in the translation for stylistic reasons to avoid redundancy.

5 tn Heb “and there will be no power in your hand”; NCV “there will be nothing you can do.”
