Deuteronomy 13:9

Deuteronomy 30:15

Context

30:15 “Look! I have set before you today life and prosperity on the one hand, and death and disaster on the other.

1 tn Heb “from the middle of.” Although many recent English versions leave this expression untranslated, the point seems to be that these soldiers did not die in battle but “within the camp.”

2 tn Heb “you will destroy their name from under heaven” (cf. KJV); NRSV “blot out their name from under heaven.”

3 tn The Hebrew text uses the infinitive absolute for emphasis, which the translation indicates with the words “without fail” (cf. NIV “you must certainly put him to death”).

4 tn Heb “to put him to death,” but this is misleading in English for such an action would leave nothing for the others to do.
