Deuteronomy 14:19

Context
14:19 and any winged thing on the ground are impure to you – they may not be eaten. 1

Deuteronomy 23:9

Context
Purity in Personal Hygiene

23:9 When you go out as an army against your enemies, guard yourselves against anything impure. 2

Deuteronomy 14:10

Context
14:10 but whatever does not have fins and scales you may not eat; it is ritually impure to you.

1 tc The MT reads the Niphal (passive) for expected Qal (“you [plural] must not eat”); cf. Smr, LXX. However, the harder reading should stand.

2 tn Heb “evil.” The context makes clear that this is a matter of ritual impurity, not moral impurity, so it is “evil” in the sense that it disbars one from certain religious activity.
