Deuteronomy 1:15
Context1:15 So I chose 1 as your tribal leaders wise and well-known men, placing them over you as administrators of groups of thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens, and also as other tribal officials.
Deuteronomy 26:12
Context26:12 When you finish tithing all 2 your income in the third year (the year of tithing), you must give it to the Levites, the resident foreigners, the orphans, and the widows 3 so that they may eat to their satisfaction in your villages. 4
Deuteronomy 33:9
Context33:9 He said to his father and mother, “I have not seen him,” 5
and he did not acknowledge his own brothers
or know his own children,
for they kept your word,
and guarded your covenant.
1 tn Or “selected”; Heb “took.”
2 tn Heb includes “the tithes of.” This has not been included in the translation to avoid redundancy.
3 tn The terms “Levite, resident foreigner, orphan, and widow” are collective singulars in the Hebrew text (also in v. 13).
4 tn Heb “gates.”
5 sn This statement no doubt alludes to the Levites’ destruction of their own fellow tribesmen following the golden calf incident (Exod 32:25-29).
