 tn Heb “multiplied you.”

tn Or “heavens.” The Hebrew term שָׁמַיִם (shamayim) may be translated “heaven(s)” or “sky” depending on the context.

tn Heb “from the middle of.” Although many recent English versions leave this expression untranslated, the point seems to be that these soldiers did not die in battle but “within the camp.”

tn Heb “give great care to your souls.”

tn Heb “you will be left men (i.e., few) of number.”

tn Heb “the Lord.” See note on the word “his” in v. 17.

tn Heb “house,” referring to the entire household.

tn Heb “you will destroy their name from under heaven” (cf. KJV); NRSV “blot out their name from under heaven.”

 tn Heb “leave me alone.”

 tn Heb “from under heaven.”

 tn Heb “heart.”

tn The Hebrew text uses the infinitive absolute for emphasis, which the translation indicates with “certainly.”

tn Heb “to go there to possess it.”

tc Smr and some LXX mss read “they buried him,” that is, the Israelites. The MT reads “he buried him,” meaning in the context that “the Lord buried him.” This understanding, combined with the statement at the end of the verse that Moses’ burial place is unknown, gave rise to traditions during the intertestamental period that are reflected in the NT in Jude 9 and in OT pseudepigraphic works like the Assumption of Moses.
