Deuteronomy 1:10-11

1:10 The Lord your God has increased your population 1  to the point that you are now as numerous as the very stars of the sky. 2  1:11 Indeed, may the Lord, the God of your ancestors, make you a thousand times more numerous than you are now, blessing you 3  just as he said he would!

Deuteronomy 9:2

9:2 They include the Anakites, 4  a numerous 5  and tall people whom you know about and of whom it is said, “Who is able to resist the Anakites?”

Deuteronomy 9:14

9:14 Stand aside 6  and I will destroy them, obliterating their very name from memory, 7  and I will make you into a stronger and more numerous nation than they are.”

Deuteronomy 10:22

10:22 When your ancestors went down to Egypt, they numbered only seventy, but now the Lord your God has made you as numerous as the stars of the sky. 8

2 tn Or “heavens.” The Hebrew term שָׁמַיִם (shamayim) may be translated “heaven(s)” or “sky” depending on the context.

3 tn Heb “may he bless you.”

5 tn Heb “great and tall.” Many English versions understand this to refer to physical size or strength rather than numbers (cf. “strong,” NIV, NCV, NRSV, NLT).

6 tn Heb “leave me alone.”
