Daniel 8:3

8:3 I looked up 1  and saw 2  a 3  ram with two horns standing at the canal. Its two horns were both long, 4  but one was longer than the other. The longer one was coming up after the shorter one.

Daniel 8:5

Context

8:5 While I was contemplating all this, 5  a male goat 6  was coming from the west over the surface of all the land 7  without touching the ground. This goat had a conspicuous horn 8  between its eyes.

Daniel 10:20

10:20 He said, “Do you know why I have come to you? 9  Now I am about to return to engage in battle with the prince of Persia. When I go, the prince of Greece is coming.

1 tn Heb “lifted my eyes.”

2 tn Heb “and behold.”

3 tn Heb “one.” The Hebrew numerical adjective occasionally functions like an English indefinite article. See GKC 401 §125.b.

4 tn Heb “high” (also “higher” later in this verse).

5 tn The words “all this” are added in the translation for stylistic reasons and for clarification.

6 tn Heb “and behold, a he-goat of the goats.”

7 tn Or “of the whole earth” (NAB, ASV, NASB, NRSV).

8 tn Heb “a horn of vision” [or “conspicuousness”], i.e., “a conspicuous horn,” one easily seen.

9 sn The question is rhetorical, intended to encourage reflection on Daniel’s part.
