Daniel 6:16

Context
6:16 So the king gave the order, 1  and Daniel was brought and thrown into a den 2  of lions. The king consoled 3  Daniel by saying, “Your God whom you continually serve will rescue you!”

Daniel 6:20

Context
6:20 As he approached the den, he called out to Daniel in a worried voice, 4  “Daniel, servant of the living God, was your God whom you continually serve able to rescue you from the lions?”

Daniel 11:14

Context

11:14 “In those times many will oppose 5  the king of the south. 6  Those who are violent 7  among your own people will rise up in confirmation of 8  the vision, but they will falter.

1 tn Aram “said.” So also in vv. 24, 25.

2 sn The den was perhaps a pit below ground level which could be safely observed from above.

3 tn Aram “answered and said [to Daniel].”

4 tn Aram “The king answered and said to Daniel.” This phrase has not been included in the translation for stylistic reasons; it is redundant in English.

5 tn Heb “stand against.”

6 sn This was Ptolemy V Epiphanes (ca. 203-181 B.C.).

7 tn Heb “sons of violence.” “Son(s) is sometimes used idiomatically in Hebrew to indicate that someone is characterized by a certain quality. So the expression “sons of violence” means that these individuals will be characterized by violent deeds.

8 tn Heb “to cause to stand.”
