Daniel 4:35

Context

4:35 All the inhabitants of the earth are regarded as nothing. 1

He does as he wishes with the army of heaven

and with those who inhabit the earth.

No one slaps 2  his hand

and says to him, ‘What have you done?’

Daniel 9:6

Context
9:6 We have not paid attention to your servants the prophets, who spoke by your authority 3  to our kings, our leaders, and our ancestors, 4  and to all the inhabitants 5  of the land as well.

1 tc The present translation reads כְּלָא (kÿla’), with many medieval Hebrew MSS, rather than כְּלָה (kÿlah) of BHS.

2 tn Aram “strikes against.”

3 tn Heb “in your name.” Another option is to translate, “as your representatives.”

4 tn Heb “our fathers” (also in vv. 8, 16). The Hebrew term translated “father” can refer to more distant relationships such as grandfathers or ancestors.

5 tn Heb “people.”
