3:8 Now 1  at that time certain 2  Chaldeans came forward and brought malicious accusations against 3  the Jews.

Daniel 12:1

Context

12:1 “At that time Michael,

the great prince who watches over your people, 4 

will arise. 5 

There will be a time of distress

unlike any other from the nation’s beginning 6 

up to that time.

But at that time your own people,

all those whose names are 7  found written in the book,

will escape.

1 tc This expression is absent in Theodotion.

2 tn Aram “men.”

3 tn Aram “ate the pieces of.” This is a rather vivid idiom for slander.

4 tn Heb “stands over the sons of your people.”

5 tn Heb “will stand up.”

6 tn Or “from the beginning of a nation.”

7 tn The words “whose names are” are added in the translation for stylistic reasons and for clarification.
