3:21 So those men were tied up while still wearing their cloaks, trousers, turbans, and other clothes, 1  and were thrown into the furnace 2  of blazing fire.

1 sn There is a great deal of uncertainty with regard to the specific nature of these items of clothing.

2 tn Aram “into the midst of the furnace.” For stylistic reasons the words “the midst of” have been left untranslated.

3 tn Aram “a prolonging of life was granted to them.”

4 tn Or “corrupt.”

5 tn Heb “acted wickedly toward.”

6 tn Heb “know.” The term “know” sometimes means “to recognize.” In relational contexts it can have the connotation “recognize the authority of, be loyal to,” as it does here.

7 sn This is an allusion to the Maccabean revolt, which struggled to bring about Jewish independence in the second century B.C.
