• [Dan 3:6] Supported By The Word

  Supported by the Word, Though in himself a worm, The servant of the Lord Can wondrous acts perform: Without dismay he boldly treads Where’er the path of duty leads. The haughty king in vain, With fury on his brow, Believers would constrain To golden gods to bow: The furnace could not make them fear, Because they knew the Lord was near. As vain was the decree Which charged them not to pray; Daniel still bowed his knee, And worshiped thrice a day: Trusting in God, he feared not men, Though threatened with the lion’s den. Secure they might refuse Compliance with such laws, For what had they to lose, When God espoused their cause? He made the hungry lions crouch, Nor durst the fire His children touch. The Lord is still the same, A mighty shield and tow’r, And they who trust His Name Are guarded by His pow’r: He can the rage of lions tame, And bear them harmless through the flame. Yet we too often shrink When trials are in view; Expecting we must sink, And never can get through. But could we once believe indeed, From all these fears we should be freed.

  I saw a wayworn traveler, in tattered garments clad, And struggling up the mountain, it seemed that he was sad; His back was laden heavy, his strength was almost gone, Yet he shouted as he journeyed, “Deliverance will come!” Refrain Then palms of victory, crowns of glory, Palms of victory I shall wear. The summer sun was shining, the sweat was on his brow, His garments worn and dusty, his step seemed very slow; But he kept pressing onward, for he was wending home, Still shouting as he journeyed, “Deliverance will come!” Refrain The songsters in the arbor that stood beside the way Attracted his attention, inviting his delay: His watchword being “Onward!” he stopped his ears and ran, Still shouting as he journeyed, “Deliverance will come!” Refrain I saw him in the evening; the sun was bending low; He’d overtopped the mountain, and reached the vale below: He saw the Golden City—his everlasting home— And shouted loud, “Hosanna! Deliverance will come!” Refrain While gazing on that city, just o’er the narrow flood, A band of holy angels came from the throne of God; They bore him on their pinions safe o’er the dashing foam, And joined him in his triumph: Deliverance had come! Refrain I heard the song of triumph they sang upon that shore, Saying, “Jesus has redeemed us to suffer nevermore!” Then casting his eyes backward on the race which he had run, He shouted loud, “Hosanna! Deliverance has come!” Refrain I saw a blood washed pilgrim, a sinner saved by grace, Upon the King’s highway, with peaceful, shining face; Temptations sore beset him, but nothing could afright; He said, “The yoke is easy, the burden, it is light.” Refrain Then palms of victory, crowns of glory, Palms of victory I shall wear. His helmet was salvation, a simple faith his shield, And righteousness his breastplate, the spirit’s sword he’d wield. All fiery darts arrested, and quenched their blazing flight; He cried “The yoke is easy, the burden, it is light.” Refrain I saw him in the furnace; he doubted not, nor feared, And in the flames beside him, the Son of God appeared; Though seven times ’twas heated, with all the tempter’s might, He cried, “The yoke is easy, the burden, it is light.” Refrain ’Mid storms, and clouds, and trials, in prison, at the stake, He leaped for joy, rejoicing, ’twas all for Jesus’ sake; That God should count him worthy, was such supreme delight, He cried, “The yoke is easy, the burden, is so light.” Refrain I saw him overcoming, through all the swelling strife, Until he crossed the threshold of God’s eternal life; The crown, the throne, the scepter, the name, the stone so white, Were his, who found, in Jesus, the yoke and burden light. • [Dan 4:35] God Most High, We Praise You

  God Most High, we praise You, honor, and exalt You. You Who live forever, to You our song we raise. Oh, how great Your signs, Lord; mighty are Your wonders. Eternal ruler, worthy of all praise! Your enduring kingdom lasts for generations. Your dominion is eternal, and You rule all men. You alone are living; You endure forever. Your kingdom, Lord, will never have an end. All earth’s many peoples You regard as nothing. You do as You please in Heaven and on earth below. None can overpower You; none can hold Your hand back. None dares to ask You why You acted so. King of Heav’n, we praise You, glorify, exalt You. Everything You do is right, and all Your ways are just. All the proud and boastful You can quickly humble. We bow before You; Lord, in You we trust.

• [Dan 5:5] Handwriting On The Wall, The

  At the feast of Belshazzar and a thousand of his lords, While they drank from golden vessels, as the Book of Truth records, In the night, as they reveled in the royal palace hall, They were seized with consternation—’twas the Hand upon the wall! Refrain ’Tis the hand of God on the wall! ’Tis the hand of God on the wall! Shall the record be “Found wanting!” Or shall it be “Found trusting!” While that hand is writing on the wall? See the brave captive, Daniel, as he stood before the throng, And rebuked the haughty monarch for his mighty deeds of wrong; As he read out the writing—’twas the doom of one and all, For the kingdom now was finished—said the Hand upon the wall! Refrain See the faith, zeal and courage, that would dare to do the right, Which the Spirit gave to Daniel—’twas the secret of his might, In his home in Judea, or a captive in the hall, He understood the writing of his God upon the wall! Refrain So our deeds are recorded—there’s a Hand that’s writing now: Sinner, give your heart to Jesus, to His royal mandates bow; For the day is approaching—it must come to one and all, When the sinners’ condemnation will be written on the wall!   With the window open wide, And the foe so near, Daniel bows before his God, Without doubt or fear. Refrain Brave Daniel! brave Daniel! Ever good and true; If, like him, to God we’re faithful, He’ll bring us safely through. Hark! the voice of prayer and praise, Full of joy and peace; King’s decree and lion’s den Cannot make it cease!   Do you see the Hebrew captive kneeling, At morning, noon and night, to pray? In his chamber he remembers Zion, Though in exile far away. The one eternal God, Ere aught that now appears; The first, the last: beyond all thought His timeless years!
