Daniel 2:39

2:39 Now after you another kingdom 1  will arise, one inferior to yours. Then a third kingdom, one of bronze, will rule in all the earth.

10:14 Now I have come to help you understand what will happen to your people in the latter days, for the vision pertains to future days.”

1 sn The identity of the first kingdom is clearly Babylon. The identification of the following three kingdoms is disputed. The common view is that they represent Media, Persia, and Greece. Most conservative scholars identify them as Media-Persia, Greece, and Rome.

2 tn Aram “establish a written interdict and inscribe a written decree.”

3 tn Or “removed.”

4 tn Heb “hear.” Here the verb refers to hearing favorably, accepting the prayer and responding positively.

5 tn Heb “let your face shine.” This idiom pictures God smiling in favor. See Pss 31:16; 67:1; 80:3, 7, 19.

6 tn Heb “for the sake of my Lord.” Theodotion has “for your sake.” Cf. v. 19.
