Daniel 2:28

Context
2:28 However, there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries, 1  and he has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in the times to come. 2  The dream and the visions you had while lying on your bed 3  are as follows.

Daniel 3:12

Context
3:12 But there are Jewish men whom you appointed over the administration of the province of Babylon – Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego – and these men 4  have not shown proper respect to you, O king. They don’t serve your gods and they don’t pay homage to the golden statue that you have erected.”

Daniel 5:16

Context
5:16 However, I have heard 5  that you are able to provide interpretations and to decipher knotty problems. Now if you are able to read this writing and make known to me its interpretation, you will wear purple and have a golden collar around your neck and be third 6  ruler in the kingdom.”

Daniel 9:13

Context
9:13 Just as it is written in the law of Moses, so all this calamity has come on us. Still we have not tried to pacify 7  the LORD our God by turning back from our sin and by seeking wisdom 8  from your reliable moral standards. 9

1 tn Aram “a revealer of mysteries.” The phrase serves as a quasi-title for God in Daniel.

2 tn Aram “in the latter days.”

3 tn Aram “your dream and the visions of your head upon your bed.”

4 sn Daniel’s absence from this scene has sparked the imagination of commentators, some of whom have suggested that perhaps he was unable to attend the dedication due to sickness or due to being away on business. Hippolytus supposed that Daniel may have been watching from a distance.

5 tn The Aramaic text has also the words “about you.”

6 tn Or perhaps “one of three rulers,” in the sense of becoming part of a triumvir. So also v. 29.

7 tn Heb “we have not pacified the face of.”

8 tn Or “by gaining insight.”

9 tn Heb “by your truth.” The Hebrew term does not refer here to abstract truth, however, but to the reliable moral guidance found in the covenant law. See vv 10-11.
