1:15 At the end of the ten days their appearance was better and their bodies were healthier 1  than all the young men who had been eating the royal delicacies.

Daniel 3:21-22

3:21 So those men were tied up while still wearing their cloaks, trousers, turbans, and other clothes, 3  and were thrown into the furnace 4  of blazing fire. 3:22 But since the king’s command was so urgent, and the furnace was so excessively hot, the men who escorted 5  Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were killed 6  by the leaping flames. 7

8:26 The vision of the evenings and mornings that was told to you is correct. 8  But you should seal up the vision, for it refers to a time many days from now.”

1 tn Heb “fat of flesh”; KJV, ASV “fatter in flesh”; NASB, NRSV “fatter” (although this is no longer a sign of health in Western culture).

2 tn Heb “at the end of the days which the king said to bring them.”

3 sn There is a great deal of uncertainty with regard to the specific nature of these items of clothing.

4 tn Aram “into the midst of the furnace.” For stylistic reasons the words “the midst of” have been left untranslated.

5 tn Aram “caused to go up.”

6 tn The Aramaic verb is active.

7 tn Aram “the flame of the fire” (so KJV, ASV, NASB); NRSV “the raging flames.”

8 tn Heb “truth.”
