Acts 27:36

Context
27:36 So all of them were encouraged and took food themselves.

1 tn Grk “and there came about,” but this is somewhat awkward in English.

2 sn Great joy. The reason for eschatological joy was that such events pointed to God’s decisive deliverance (Luke 7:22-23). Note how the acts of healing extend beyond the Twelve here.

3 tn BDAG 238 s.v. διατρίβω gives the meaning as “spend” when followed by an accusative τὸν χρόνον (ton cronon) which is the case here.

4 tn Grk “no little (time)” (an idiom).

5 tn Although the normal meaning for παρέρχομαι (parercomai) is “pass by, go by,” it would be difficult to get to Troas from where Paul and his companions were without going through rather than around Mysia. BDAG 776 s.v. παρέρχομαι 6 list some nonbiblical examples of the meaning “go through, pass through,” and give that meaning for the usage here.

6 sn Mysia was a province in northwest Asia Minor.

7 sn Troas was a port city (and surrounding region) on the northwest coast of Asia Minor, near ancient Troy.
