Acts 5:9-10

Context
5:9 Peter then told her, “Why have you agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look! The feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out!” 5:10 At once 1  she collapsed at his feet and died. So when the young men came in, they found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her beside her husband.

Acts 7:49

Context

7:49Heaven is my throne,

and earth is the footstool for my feet.

What kind of house will you build for me, says the Lord,

or what is my resting place? 2

Acts 7:58

Context
7:58 When 3  they had driven him out of the city, they began to stone him, 4  and the witnesses laid their cloaks 5  at the feet of a young man named Saul.

Acts 13:25

Context
13:25 But while John was completing his mission, 6  he said repeatedly, 7  ‘What do you think I am? I am not he. But look, one is coming after me. I am not worthy to untie the sandals on his feet!’ 8

1 tn Grk “And at once.” Because of the difference between Greek style, which often begins sentences or clauses with “and,” and English style, which generally does not, καί (kai) has not been translated here.

2 sn What kind…resting place? The rhetorical questions suggest mere human beings cannot build a house to contain God.

3 tn Grk “And when.” Because of the length of the Greek sentence and the tendency of contemporary English style to use shorter sentences, καί (kai) has not been translated here; a new sentence is begun instead.

4 sn They began to stone him. The irony of the scene is that the people do exactly what the speech complains about in v. 52.

5 tn Or “outer garments.”

sn Laid their cloaks. The outer garment, or cloak, was taken off and laid aside to leave the arms free (in this case for throwing stones).

6 tn Or “task.”

7 tn The verb ἔλεγεν (elegen) has been translated as an iterative imperfect, since John undoubtedly said this or something similar on numerous occasions.

8 tn Literally a relative clause, “of whom I am not worthy to untie the sandals of his feet.” Because of the awkwardness of this construction in English, a new sentence was begun here.
