Acts 4:14
Context4:14 And because they saw the man who had been healed standing with them, they had nothing to say against this. 1
Acts 6:11
Context6:11 Then they secretly instigated 2 some men to say, “We have heard this man 3 speaking blasphemous words against Moses and God.”
Acts 23:8
Context23:8 (For the Sadducees say there is no resurrection, or angel, or spirit, but the Pharisees acknowledge them all.) 4
1 tn Or “nothing to say in opposition.”
2 tn Another translation would be “they suborned” (but this term is not in common usage). “Instigate (secretly), suborn” is given by BDAG 1036 s.v. ὑποβάλλω.
3 tn Grk “heard him”; but since this is direct discourse, it is more natural (and clearer) to specify the referent (Stephen) as “this man.”
4 tn BDAG 55 s.v. ἀμφότεροι 2 has “all, even when more than two are involved…Φαρισαῖοι ὁμολογοῦσιν τὰ ἀ. believe in them all 23:8.” On this belief see Josephus, J. W. 2.8.14 (2.163); Ant. 18.1.3 (18.14).
