Acts 26:27

Context
26:27 Do you believe the prophets, 6  King Agrippa? 7  I know that you believe.”

1 sn The ignorance Peter mentions here does not excuse them from culpability. It was simply a way to say “you did not realize the great mistake you made.”

2 tn Or simply “did not know.” However, in this context the point is that the new king knew nothing about Joseph, not whether he had known him personally (which is the way “did not know Joseph” could be understood).

3 tn Grk “arose,” but in this context it clearly refers to a king assuming power.

4 sn A quotation from Exod 1:8.

5 tn Or “proclaimed.”

6 sn “Do you believe the prophets?” Note how Paul made the issue believing the OT prophets and God’s promise which God fulfilled in Christ. He was pushing King Agrippa toward a decision not for or against Paul’s guilt of any crime, but concerning Paul’s message.

7 sn See the note on King Agrippa in 25:13.
