• [Act 2:17] Oh, Enter, Lord, Thy Temple

  Oh, enter, Lord, Thy temple, Be Thou my spirit’s Guest, Who gavest me, the earth-born, A second birth more blest. Thou in the Godhead, Lord, Though here to dwell Thou deignest, Forever equal reignest, Art equally adored. Oh, enter, let me know Thee And feel Thy power within, The power that breaks our fetters And rescues us from sin; Oh, wash and cleanse Thou me That I may serve Thee truly And render honor duly With perfect heart to Thee. Thou art, O Holy Spirit, The true anointing Oil, Through which are consecrated Soul, body, rest, and toil To Christ, whose guardian wings, Where’er their lot appointed, Protect His own anointed, His prophets, priests, and kings. Thou, Holy Spirit, teachest The soul to pray aright; Thy songs have sweetest music, Thy prayers have wondrous might. Unheard they cannot fall, They pierce the highest heaven Till He His help hath given Who surely helpeth all. Thy gift is joy, O Spirit, Thou wouldst not have us pine; In darkest hours Thy comfort Doth ever brightly shine. And, oh, how oft Thy voice Hath shed its sweetness o’er me And opened heaven before me And bid my heart rejoice! All love is Thine, O Spirit; Thou hatest enmity; Thou lovest peace and friendship, All strife wouldst have us flee; Where wrath and discord reign, Thy whisper kindly pleadeth And to the heart that heedeth Brings love and light again. Our path in all things order According to Thy mind, And when this life is over And all must be resigned, Oh, grant us then to die With calm and fearless spirit And after death inherit Eternal life on high.

  We wait for a great and glorious day, As many as love the Lord, When shadows shall flee, and clouds pass away, And weeping no more be heard. Refrain O wonderful day, that soon may be here! O beautiful hope, the pilgrim to cheer! Thy coming we hail in tuneful accord, Thou glorious day of Christ, our Lord. In glory and pow’r our King shall appear, And call to Himself His own; No distance, nor death shall part them as here, Nor sin, with its pains, be known. • [Act 2:36] I Love To Think That Jesus Saw

  I love to think that Jesus saw The same bright sun that shines today; It gave Him light to do His work, And smiled upon His play. The same white moon with silver face That sails across the sky at night, He used to see in Galilee, And watch it with delight. The same great God that hears my prayers Heard His, when Jesus knelt to pray; He is my Father, who will keep His child through every day.

• [Act 2:36] We Worship Thee, O Crucified

  We worship Thee, O Crucified! What glories didst Thou lay aside; What depth of human grief and sin Didst Thou consent to languish in, That through atoning blood outpoured Our broken peace might be restored! We mourn that e’er our hearts should be One with a world that loves not Thee; That with the crowd we passed Thee by, And saw, but did not feel, Thee die. Not till we knew our guilt and shame Did we esteem our Savior’s Name. Though with our shame we shunned the light, Thou didst not leave us in the night; We were not left in sin to stray Unsought, unloved, from Thee away; For from Thy cross irradiates A power that saves and recreates. O loved above all earthly love, To Thee our hearts adoring move; Thy boundless mercies yearn to save And in Thy blood sin’s wounds to lave. O speed the day when men shall see That human hopes are all in Thee.

  Eternal Spirit! we confess And sing the wonders of Thy grace Thy power conveys our blessings down From God the Father and the Son. Enlightened by Thine heav’nly ray, Our shades and darkness turn to day; Thine inward teachings make us know Our danger and our refuge too. Thy power and glory work within, And break the chains of reigning sin; Do our imperious lusts subdue, And form our wretched hearts anew. The troubled conscience knows Thy voice, Thy cheering words awake our joys; Thy words allay the stormy wind, And calm the surges of the mind.

  Gracious Spirit, dwell with me! I myself would gracious be; And with words that help and heal Would Thy life in mine reveal; And with actions bold and meek Would for Christ my Savior speak. Truthful Spirit, dwell with me! I myself would truthful be; And with wisdom kind and clear Let Thy life in mine appear; And with actions brotherly Speak my Lord’s sincerity. Tender Spirit, dwell with me! I myself would tender be; Shut my heart up like a flower In temptation’s darksome hour, Open it when shines the sun, And his love by fragrance own. I myself would holy be; Separate from sin, I would Choose and cherish all things good, And whatever I can be Give to Him Who gave me Thee!

• [Act 2:38] This Child We Dedicate To Thee

  This child we dedicate to Thee, O God of grace and purity! Shield it from sin and threatening wrong, And let Thy love its life prolong. O may Thy Spirit gently draw Its willing soul to keep Thy law; May virtue, piety, and truth, Dawn even with its dawning youth! We, too, before Thy gracious sight Once shared the blest baptismal rite, And would renew its solemn vow, With love, and thanks, and praises now. Grant that, with true and faithful heart, We still may act the Christian’s part, Cheered by each promise Thou hast giv’n, And laboring for the prize in Heav’n.

• [Act 2:38] To Jordan Came Our Christ, The Lord

  To Jordan came our Lord the Christ, To do God’s pleasure willing, And there was by Saint John baptized, All righteousness fulfilling; There did He consecrate a bath To wash away transgression, And quench the bitterness of death By His own blood and passion; He would a new life give us. So hear ye all, and well perceive What God doth call baptism, And what a Christian should believe Who error shuns and schism: That we should water use, the Lord Declareth it His pleasure; Not simple water, but the Word And Spirit without measure; He is the true Baptizer. To show us this, He hath His Word With signs and symbols given; On Jordan’s banks was plainly heard The Father’s voice from Heaven: “This is My well-beloved Son, In whom My soul delighteth; Hear Him.” Yea, hear Him every one Whom He Himself inviteth, Hear and obey His teaching. In tender manhood Jesus straight To holy Jordan wendeth; The Holy Ghost from Heaven’s gate In dovelike shape descendeth; That thus the truth be not denied, Nor should our faith e’er waver, That the Three Persons all preside, At baptism’s holy laver, And dwell with the believer. Thus Jesus His disciples sent: Go teach ye every nation, That lost in sin they must repent; And flee from condemnation: He that believes and is baptized, Obtains a mighty blessing; A new-born man, no more he dies, Eternal life possessing, A joyful heir of Heaven. Who in this mercy hath not faith, Nor aught therein discerneth, Is yet in sin, condemned to death, And fire that ever burneth; His holiness avails him not, Nor aught which he is doing; His inborn sin brings all to naught, And maketh sure his ruin; Himself he cannot succor. The eye of sense alone is dim, And nothing sees but water; Faith sees Christ Jesus, and in Him The Lamb ordained for slaughter; She sees the cleansing fountain red With the dear blood of Jesus, Which from the sins inherited From fallen Adam frees us, And from our own misdoings.
