Acts 17:21

Context
17:21 (All the Athenians and the foreigners who lived there used to spend their time 1  in nothing else than telling 2  or listening to something new.) 3

Acts 19:4

Context
19:4 Paul said, “John baptized with a baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, 4  that is, in Jesus.”

1 tn The imperfect verb ηὐκαίρουν (hukairoun) has been translated as a customary or habitual imperfect.

2 tn BDAG 406-7 s.v. εὐκαιρέω has “used to spend their time in nothing else than telling Ac 17:21.”

3 sn This is a parenthetical note by the author. The reference to newness may be pejorative.

4 sn These disciples may have had their contact with John early on in the Baptist’s ministry before Jesus had emerged. This is the fifth time Luke links John the Baptist and Jesus (Acts 1:5; 11:16; 13:25; 18:25).
